Hydrolyzed Collagen: what is it? Collagen is a protein, which constitutes the most important building block of our body. It takes care of the unity and elasticity of connective tissues such as your skin, cartilage and bones. The majority of your body's own collagen, including bones, muscles and skin, consists of 'Type 1' collagen. Every day, your body breaks down this collagen and through cells in your body tissue new collagen is created naturally. As you grow older, your body starts producing less of this natural collagen, thus showing the first signs of aging. This process starts around the age of twentyfive and increases drastically from the age of thirty. This results in wrinkles, decrease of muscle tissue, osteoporosis and cartilage wear. The collagen we produce in our body is subdivided into 28 types. 90% of it consists of Type 1 . 'Hydrolyzed Collagen' by Niche4Health is type 1 collagen withdrawn from the skin of oxen and identical to human collagen. 'Hydrolyzed' means it's broken down enzymatically, thereby split up into smaller chains of amino acids, so called Peptides. This makes it easier to digest and ensures a swift absorption by your body. One container consists of 250 grams Hydrolyzed Collagen and is sufficient for a month of daily usage. A leveled off scoop (spoon included) of 10 grams of collagen powder can be dissolved into many different foodstuffs such as: tea, coffee, smoothies, juices, yoghurt and soup. The product itself has a very neutral taste so it can be mixed with many other foodstuffs! Similar to many medicines, hydrolyzed collagen has a certain incubation time.In the first month of use, the results will be limited. We advise the following intake cycle: 25 days ‘on’ and 5 days ‘off’. The reason for this is actually very simple: your body gradually builds op a tolerance to the collagen taken. Just like it does with products as sugar, caffeine and many others. If you stop your collagen intake for 5 days after the 25 day cycle, you’re basically ‘resetting’ your body for optimal intake during a new cycle. After a 5 day intake stop your body loses its built up tolerance thus enabling optimal results when continuing your intake cycle!
